Why we exist

To give everyone the chance to train like a world champion, alongside one.

Pace exists to give Oregon a real home for serious jiu-jitsu, open to everyone. Whether you are a competitor chasing the podium or you just want to train for fun, get in shape, and grow as a person, you learn the same details from the same world champion. Warm enough for your first day, honest enough for your hundredth.

How it started

From the mat up.

Pace started with a simple idea: Oregon deserved jiu-jitsu taught at the highest level, without the ego that usually comes with it. So we built a room where a first-timer and a competitor warm up side by side, learn the same details, and answer to the same standard. The result is a tight-knit community that trains hard like a team and supports each other like a family.

Led by

Lucas Barbosa

Six-time IBJJF World Champion · ADCC Silver Medalist

Lucas Barbosa is a six-time IBJJF black-belt World Champion and ADCC silver medalist, the only IBJJF Adult Black Belt World Champion in the whole Pacific Northwest and one of the highest-profile athletes in the sport for over a decade. He came up in some of the toughest rooms in jiu-jitsu and built Pace to uphold that exact same standard. He teaches our classes, developed our world-class curriculum and trained our instructors, so the quality of the jiu-jitsu and of the experience is the same whoever is on the mat with you. When Lucas teaches, you get the real thing: the techniques that made him a champion, delivered in a way that is complete but easy to absorb. You may not share his world-title aspirations, and that is the point. Pace gives you the same tools to conquer your own life like a world champion.

What we stand for

Earned, not given.

01

The ground doesn’t lie

Every belt here is tested live. Results are earned on the mat, never handed out.

02

Built under pressure

We train hard on purpose, so the hard days start to feel like any other day.

03

Show up

Consistency beats talent. Keep the pace, and the rest takes care of itself.

04

No ego at the door

World-class standard, zero attitude. Beginners and world champions share the same mat.
